An Irishman from Maryborough in County Cork, Wallis came to North America in 1832 and lived for a time at Montreal before settling in Upper Canada. In partnership with Robert Jameson, he built a sawmill and grist-mill which formed the nucleus of the village of Fenelon Falls.
